Celebrate your Irish roots (real or imaginary) by making this easy 15″ x 18″ wall hanging, featuring a pieced and embellished background and a padded center applique.
The design came about after my husband and I returned from our first trip to Ireland a year ago. To commemorate our visit, I searched for an elegant alternative to the ubiquitous shamrock which brands all things Irish (St. Patrick’s Day in particular). When I came across the beautiful Five Circle symbol, I knew I had the makings for a special piecing project.
The four outer circles and the center circle of this ancient Celtic design represent the four primary seasons, and the “cross-quarter days” which occur mid-way between the winter and fall solstice and the spring and fall equinox.
As we approach the Ides of March and the start of Daylight Savings Time in the U.S., this icon of the balance and harmony of nature in all its aspects is an appropriate decorative element for your home, studio, or office.
